adidas Originals Favourites: The NMD
Released in 2015 the adidas nomad (known as the NMD), was an instant hit, taking inspiration from classic adidas shoes like the Boston Super, Rising Star and the Micropacer. The NMD combines two of adidas’ breakthrough technologies with a Boost sole and a Primeknit upper, the NMD is inspired by the brand's heritage whilst being a fresh new style. Being designed for everyday streetwear the NMD is comfortable whilst being fresh and modern looking.
Since the release, there have been many versions of the NMD, the Pharrell Williams NMD Collab was so popular that the shoes are still being resold today.
Here’s your guide to all the different NMD Styles:
The NMD R1 is the original NMD, the R1 consists of a Primeknit upper, boost soles and midsole plugs - the plugs provide support in the sole. While the R1 was designed as a lifestyle shoe, it quickly became a hit with runners thanks to its high tech design.
The R2 is the second version of the original NMD. The R2 has no midsole plugs and features the iconic adidas 3 stripes.
Launched in March 2016 the City Sock NMD (know as NMD_CS1), has the same boost sole but with a slip-on sock-style Primeknit upper.
The second City Sock has a wrap-around style sock upper and features the same plugless sole as the R2.
The XR1 has a similar silhouette to the R1 but with the addition of a cage to assist with lacing and the midsole plugs are smaller.
The STLT is a sleeker version of the original NMD, it has some of the same design features and a similar aesthetic, but it features Yeezy BOOST 350 style lacing on the Primeknit upper.
The Racer features a finer knit Primeknit upper and a new Boost sole that has a plug that wraps around the heel for support.
How to clean your NMD’s
While knitted trainers are on-trend they can become dirty quite quickly, with their Primeknit upper NMD’s can get marked quite easily, here’s how to keep your NMD’s looking their best.
Knock off the dirt - Knocking the soles of the shoes together should get most of the dirt off but if there’s still some stubborn dirt a toothbrush should do the trick.
Wash gently - A drop of mild laundry soap and warm water should do the trick to remove any stains, just take a cloth and gently wipe away the stain. If there are any tougher stains
use a soft toothbrush or a suede brush, take care not to be too vigorous as you don’t want to snag the knit.
Wipe away the suds - Make sure there’s no soap left on your shoes before you leave them to dry.
Stuff & air dry - Stuffing the shoes with a cloth will help them to keep their shape, then simply leave them to air dry.
