This week’s instalment of ‘20 Questions with’ features blogger and stylish Signora, Pam Scalfi. We caught up with Pam to ask about her top season staples, her style inspiration and top picks from MandM Direct.
#1 Where do you call home?
Home is where my family is! My family and I moved to London from Italy 14 years ago when I was just 13. I grew up here and learned to call London my home. Now, I can't imagine living anywhere else!
#2 Who is your biggest style inspiration?
I follow and am friends with a lot of fashion influencers on social media which makes it hard for me to pick just one, especially as my style is so eclectic. But if I had to pick, I'd recommend all to follow Brazilian-born fashion blogger and YouTuber Thassia Naves, whose style is impeccable. She mixes classic and trendy in a way that only she knows how to!
#3 What was the last item you bought?
A pair of mom jeans which I've been wanting for so long! I have a pear-shaped body so jeans tend to fit a little funny on me, but the pair I picked up looks amazingly vintage which is the vibe I was going for, but also looks great on!
#4 What item of clothing do you wear the most?
Day and night, you are probably likely to see me in a pair of trainers. I live for comfort and my Stan Smiths are my absolute favourite. They're comfy, they go with pretty much anything in my wardrobe and you can dress them up or down.
#5 What item could you not live without?
Denim jackets! I have a few in my closet but my favourite ones are from Levi's because that is the one brand that really knows how to make great denim. The two jackets I have from them are from MandM Direct which meant their price tag was a fraction of the original RRP; amazing win!
#6 What is your favourite style trend at the moment?
I'm loving anything and everything in a leopard print. In fact, my latest blog post talks about the trend and I give a few tips on how to wear the trend because I know the print can be a little scary for some. If you're willing to give it a try and want to do fall right, then do add a leopard printed item of clothing to your closet! Read my tips here.
#7 Have you made any style choices that you look back on and regret?
Haven't we all? I used to wear extremely slouchy jeans when I was in high school and looking back at photos all I can say is, "what was I thinking!". Granted I didn't know much about fashion nor about my body shape back then, but those jeans weren't doing me any favours.
#8 Your style is very eclectic and varied - what are some of your top tips for women looking for versatility on a budget?
I've recently realised that less is more, especially when it came to fashion. I didn't use to think like this but after realising how much stuff I had accumulated in the past few years, I decided it was time to de-clutter and really focus on having a capsule wardrobe. A capsule wardrobe allows you to maximise wear of your items, really love every single piece, think of different ways to wear each item, and as a result shop smarter. The key is to invest in timeless pieces; investing in pieces that are well-made, tailored, comfortable and stylish will ensure I wear them again and again.
#9 You’re heading for a night out on the town, what’s your go-to look?
A night out nowadays means date night with my husband and to feel absolutely fabulous, I love going for a feminine flowy dress (to allow room for all the food to be consumed) paired with a pair of ankle boots!
#10 What style trend do you wish would make a comeback?
I can't really think of one because it seems everything has recently made a comeback! It's amazing how fashion today is greatly inspired by the hit trends in the 80s and 90s, and what I love about this is that trends are being seen again but they're coming back better, updated and improved. Reinventing is what fashion is all about!
#11 What is your favourite time of the year for style?
As much as I love sunshine, the beach and going away on holiday somewhere exotic, I think autumn and winter fashion is classic, chic and much more interesting. I love being cosy and being able to wear layers and layers of clothing, plus all the pretty coats and boots out there.
#12 If you could go back in time and live in any decade, what would it be?
My favourite decade has to be the 60s and I would love to see how life was back then, as it seemed like a simpler time. Plus let’s face it the music, TV, and movies were far better too!
#13 Do you have any hidden talents?
Speaking of music, I sing lead in a local group every Saturday and I love it. Music is a big part of my life, but not something I often share on my social media channels but maybe I should!
#14 How do you keep yourself in shape?
I push myself to go to the gym at least 4 times a week, even if means working out during my work lunch hour. Exercising helps me relieve stress, gives me energy and just makes me feel better about myself. I also try my best to eat healthy during the week by limiting my carb intake and focusing on veggies and fruits. On weekends I do allow myself a burger or two, after all life is all about balancing and compromising.
#15 Where is the most exciting place you have visited?
For our honeymoon, we went to Sardinia, Italy and it is without a doubt the most beautiful place I have ever been to. The ocean is this amazing turquoise colour, the food was amazing, the people were so nice and we had an amazing time. So amazing, that I certainly didn't want to come back!
#16 What did you want to be when you were growing up?
I've always had a passion for writing and when people asked me what I wanted to be, I would always say a journalist! I actually went to study mathematics at university and now work in the financial industry, so my passion for writing had to be fulfilled in another way, hence my blog!
#17 What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
"Dreams don't work unless you do". I work hard to turn the "no" into a "yes".
#18 If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?
I wouldn't mind being somewhere warm and exotic right about now! Don't get me wrong, I do love autumn but it feels chilly in London this morning and I'm so not ready for it just yet!
#19 If you won the lottery tomorrow, what is the first thing you’d buy?
Considering I never play, this would be very unlikely to happen. But if I did, my first purchase would be our family dream house!
#20 And finally, what are your Top 5 picks from MandM Direct for this season?
I'm currently looking for pieces for the season ahead and I am all about layers and boots! A fleece-lined denim jacket is a great transition piece into fall and this one from Levi's is just amazing! I would certainly not mind having this Levi's hoody in my wardrobe which would look great under the jacket and paired with a nice straight pair of jeans! Also, no fall wardrobe is complete with a great pair of boots and this one from Timberland is my current favourite. And, when the weather turns a lot colder, I know I will be looking for a Puffer Coat to keep me snug and warm.
